Transport Energy Consumption Survey 2002
MVA is currently undertaking a 14-month study commissioned by the
Electrical Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) to better understand
the existing energy consumption patterns of public and private buses
as well as medium and heavy goods vehicles in Hong Kong. The research
involves an extensive primary data collection exercise to ascertain
a bottom-up perspective of fuel consumption levels in Hong Kong,
using intercept face-to-face interviews and travel diary surveys.

Hong Kong Energy End-use Database Factorisation Analysis and Development
of Energy Models
MVA is currently undertaking a major technical study for EMSD involving
factorisation analysis and energy modelling/forecasting. The Study
includes as a major task the identification of the effects of major
factors affecting historical energy consumption data of Hong Kong
as contained in the energy end?use database, through the application
of appropriate factorisation methodologies. A key objective of the
analysis is to gauge the overall energy savings due to energy efficiency
improvements. Another part of the Study endeavors to develop energy
forecasting models at sector and segment levels for electricity and
fuel at final consumption level, for the purposes of facilitating
longer term planning (up to 30 years) in the energy sector of Hong
Kong. |

Development of Household Energy Consumption Econometric Model for
Hong Kong
MVA carried out a major study, commissioned by the Electrical and
Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) to develop an econometric model
to formulate energy use intensity and other energy efficiency indices
for major household appliances. This 7-month study included a household
survey to collect up-to-date information on energy consumption and
appliance data and involved successfully enumerating 1,600 households
through face-to-face interviews with a minimum response rate of 70%. |

Development of Energy Consumption Indicators for Transport Sector
- Benchmarking Face-to-Face Interviews & Travel Diary Survey
MVA, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, undertook
an eighteen month study commissioned by the Electrical Mechanical
Services Department (EMSD) to better understand the existing energy
consumption patterns in Hong Kong and the extent to which energy-efficient
equipment is used. MVA led the in-depth research on the Transport
Sector, focusing on private and light goods vehicles. The research
involved conducting an international survey to report on the efforts,
initiatives, indicators and benchmarks used in other countries, as
well as a vehicle manufacturers survey to review manufacturers expected
energy consumption levels. As part of this study, MVA undertook an
extensive primary data collection exercise to ascertain a bottom-up
perspective of fuel consumption levels in Hong Kong, using intercept
face-to-face interviews and travel diary surveys. |
